CommentsI stayed in Pocahontas with relatives in 1972. They lived at that time: 206 W Mason Street Pocahontas Can remember that we walked to the centre of the city and had a coffee at some drugstore. Never took pictures of the street/house where we stayed! Is the house still there and can somebody sent me a picture?

CommentsLooking for Clayton Smith - anyone?
CommentsNice website! saintmerkin99@aol.com
CommentsThis site is informative to a degree, but some photo's and locations need to be updated to current status. I do hope for those looking for people there is a response team from the Chamber of Commerce or Clerk's office, especially those looking for relatives. It would be a nice PR service and probably would spur "visitors" to our area. Perhaps the Tourism Group could even handle it.
CommentsI have never been to your beautiful town but have heard many stories about how wonderful the area is from a person that I would dearly love to reconnect with, His name is Jim Waddles[ not certain on the spelling of the last name]. He was in every way my father as I grew up and I have lost contact with him since he has come back home to Pocahontas. He lived and worked in Rockford IL at the Memorial Hospital and has since retired from there and come home. He use to tell me about the farm that his parents owned outside of town. Would it be possible to find out if he is in the area and possible get a phone number so that I could call him. As I said He was the only father figure that I had in my life but for reasons that only he and my mother know they never got married but he is still my Daddy. I really need to talk to him. Can you please help
CommentsMy father was born there in 1891 and spent his childhood on a farm outside of Pocahontas. His name was Michael Seibold, and I believe his father, an immigrant from Germany, had the same first name. I wonder if there are any really old-timers left in Pocahontas or perhaps a town historian who may have heard of the Seibolds and know where their farm was located. Lacking that, might there perhaps be some records in the Randolph County courthouse or a Catholic church that may contain information about the Seibolds?
CommentsLooking for a girl named Jerri Powell moved from Bennington in the 60's with her father to California. I believe her married name is Leaman does anyone have any information on her?

If you could send me information I would be most appreciative, I would like our daughter to know where her daddy was born. Thank you.

CommentsI am working on an ENORMOUS project about the 50 states, their cities and towns and want to add Pocahontas to it. I can’t download or print up any info off the internet or emails due to lack of space, ink and compatibility problems with some of my programs so I’m hoping to get visitors info sent via snail mail. I am interested in everything tourism about Pocahontas, including all kinds of maps. This is a one time thing so I’m hoping to get as much visitors info on Pocahontas as I possibly can. Any help you can give will be greatly appreciated. Kathy Bynum 2928 SE 170th Ave Portland, Oregon 97236

CommentsHello everyone, I want to take the time today to tell everyone that I have a new web site www.goldenartwork.photos.homepagenow.com Please stop by and take a look at some of my art work. I still have plenty to put in my gallery, but what you will see in the gallery is a start. I do all kinds of art work. I do everything from (black and white) drawings, to full body sculptures. Right now I'm making Halloween sculptures, and very soon I'll be making Christmas sculptures. So stop by and take a look, have a nice day.

CommentsPHS 92. Funny how growing up there, I couldn't wait to get out, now I cant find a way to come back. Try to come back once a year, even got the opp. to catch a playoff game last year. Good to see Coach Williams still roaming the sidelines, and my former teammate "Little one paw" and Jeremy Sifford on the sidelines. Town has grown, but still feels the same. No matter where I go, Pokey will still be home.
CommentsI love livin in Pokey!
CommentsGreat website - Reminds me of home and my roots !

I'll be moving to Pocahontas in a few weeks. When I get moved, I will be going into business with my best friend Robert Bowers jr. Rob is opening up a detail shop and with this business, is where I'll be doing the things mentioned above, plus I'll be detailing cars. So come check us out when we open. There will be information and directions to the business in the up coming month.
CommentsHello everyone. I grew up in Pocahontas, went to St. Paul's and graduated from PHS in 2001. My mum is one of the many Baltz's. I'm currently in Taiwan teaching English, but during one of my many homesick nights I found this site and had to say hi. If anyone reading this is considering settling down in Pocahontas to have a family, I'd like to say I loved growing up there. My mom always said I was abnormally happy, and I know at least once I told her it was because life was so good: a close circle of friends in school, playing in the band, Christmas parades, fishing with family on the weekends, knowing half the people at Wal-Mart, and getting lost in the woods with my sister...One thing I'll never regret is my childhood. I'll be visiting as soon as I can :)
CommentsI am (was) Emily Zucca. I graduated from PHS in 1975. I so miss Pocahontas. Life is so different out west. Those of you who still are blessed to live in Randolph County should thank God everyday. I am sure there are nice people everywhere but to tell you the truth, Randolph County has the BEST!
CommentsLoverly zite!
CommentsI hope to be moving to Pocahontas 1n the next month or two I would like to have a business of T-Shirt printing and sales and candle making and sales me and my son have a real good friend (Rob Bowers) there.

CommentsStumbled upon this site when planning a car trip from Texas to St. Louis. My mother was born in Pocahontas in 1933.
CommentsGreat site, well done, I love the outlay. Interesting ideas, good to see eager young minds.
CommentsWe just recently visited pocahontas, ar. (may 24,'07) and bought property. We all as a family decided to leave florida to look for a town (in ar) that was as close as home cookin' and nice people as you could get. In Florida you just don't get that kind of hospitality anymore. Home sweet home!
CommentsMy grandmother just passed away and the family was reminiscing about her life. A fact that I was unaware of is that she was born in the back of a covered wagon in Pocahontas, Arkansas in 1915 while the family traveled to Illinois. No one was really sure where they started from though. A few months later (in Illinois) her mother died and her father could not care for the family so they were split up between relatives and a lot of history was lost.
Commentsgreat site very informative
CommentsHey folks, not that any one remembers me but I was born in Pokey some 40 plus years ago. I moved to Comfort Texas when I was 14 and have lost track of everyone except my three of my sisters and their family who still live there. It's so unfortunate that Waterloo Industries shut down. Two of my sisters have worked there FOREVER! I was there in June last year to lay my mom to rest. Sometimes it's nice to go back to "roots" and discover. Never know I may come back after all these years although after living in the mountains of Ruidoso; it would take an climate adjustment.
CommentsVery well done site! Please keep up the good work.
CommentsI was here for the FCB Pulaski merger for a week and a half. It was definitely a different experience for me!!!!
CommentsApril 17, 2007 Hello everyone! I graduated from PHS in 1993. I ended up in Maynard for 10 years. Yes, I stayed in Randolph County but I am very happy to be back in "Redskin" country. I have three children who are now VERY proud redskins. Pokey has a wonderful school system. I thought it was pretty awesome back in my day . . . but now. . .it is INCREDIBLE! They have so many great opportunities for our children and their education. To the City of Pocahontas, you have a very nice website. I was impressed!!!

My host family was Mr Cliff Brown. since then I have returned a few times to see them. If any my school mates can see this, drop me a line. It looks like some of you are still living there. Merry Christmas to you all.

I have not been down to visit them in a couple of years and am looking forwarding to making the 7 hour trip. Cant wait to see you all again. Love, Amber.
CommentsIt has been said that you can never go home again. I don't believe that is true. I once lived in Pocahontas. I have returned to visit a few times since. The people there are still as friendly and caring as I had remembered from my childhood. I feel that I could return there and still feel loved and cared about by the community as I was as a child.
CommentsWas in Pokey for a week on business. Loved the town. Visited Church of Christ on Hwy 66, loved it.
CommentsMr. Prichard... Cody is doing GREAT! My daughter goes to school with him. From what we have heard about you, he is better off not knowing you. But being his father, I suppose you have a right to know how he is doing. He is a very happy kid. Very popular with the girls. I'm sure his mother is very proud of him.
CommentsI really am glad to see this site..It is wonderful to find out about the past years in history. It is a wonderful event..I can't wait to hear more about the re-enactments, my son gets involved in them with his great-uncle, it is good for the kids to experience part of our past....Keep up the good work..

CommentsHello everyone. It's been a long time since I have been able to visit old friends. I really miss Pocahontas but life sometimes takes you elsewhere.
CommentsLooks like a nice little town.
CommentsI visited Pocahontas last week. The most exciting thing I did while there was to check out one of the Pocahontas High School football games. They got "Fireworks!" yea! "Real Fireworks!" and a GREAT crowd of REDSKIN fans. I saw the Sheriff there. The High School Band was very nicely put together and had great tone and sound along with their performance (for half time), and they even had background props. They did a Camelot Theme with Sword fights (playing of course). Plus the team played good and won the game. They played against Corning. Maybe it was cause the cheerleaders were doing so many cheers and stunts where they throw one of the girls into the air let her fall and then catch her (My heart stopped for a moment from shock). I was truly impressed by the supportive efforts the school and community goes through for the sport. Keep up the good work. P.s. How do I get rid of chiggers? I forgot to keep off the grass. :)LOL

CommentsHello from Texas! I would like to say hello to all of my relatives in Pocahontas. My father, Ira B. Fields Jr., son of Ira and Georgia Fields, was a native of Pocahontas until he joined the military and served his country in the Army for 20 years. He returned to Pocahontas and was a owner operator of a transport truck until his death. My relatives are the Fields, Archers, Koons, and Stout's. Pocahontas was briefly my home when I was in elementary school while my father awaited orders for his next military transfer. My roots go deep and I miss the beauty of the area. If anyone happens upon my relatives, tell them Vicki says Hi from Texas.

CommentsIn summer of 1949 or 1950, we visited my mother's Polish cousin. I think his last name was CZEKALA or PAWLAK but am not sure. I do know it was Polish and he had an accent. He and his wife (no kids) had a dairy outside of town. As a 10 year old from Chicago, I fell in love with the countryside and vowed to return someday. Unfortunately, I do not live in your wonderful county but do live in the countryside with whipporwhills, bobwhite quail and wild blackberries. Someday, I hope to return and wander they country roads. This cousin and his wife returned to either IL or WI after their farm burned. This was shortly after they got the REA electricity. Do any of you oldtimers remember these Polish folks? Thanks for any help and thanks for having such a friendly place that I remember it fondly after 50 years.

CommentsI'm the granddaughter of former Pocahontas sheriff, John Thomas Thompson, 1934-38. Resently my husband and I visited your city. We were really impressed with the friendliness and helpfulness of everyone we met. We stopped by your library to ask where we might find old cemeteries i n the area (looking for my grandfather's grave). Since I have only returned to Pocahontas once since birth, I didn't have a clue where to start looking first. The librarian was very helpful and pointed us to the Masonic Cemetery. We were most impressed with her knowledge of the area and her willingness to help. We enjoyed our visit very much and will return again soon. Thanks, Cathy Thompson Philpot

CommentsHello again! I´m the spanish exchange student who lived with the Riffel´s in 1993/94 (same time as Thomas Lindquist from Sweden with the Carroll´s). I still keep really good memories while studying 12th grade at PHS and living with so lovely people who helped me to learn my second language. I´m even thinking about visiting all of you again to remember how much fun and good friends I made that year! I´ll keep that year on my mind for the rest of my life. Best Wishes and special thanks to the Riffel Family (1906 Oak Court)who made it possible. Alvaro Mintegui Cano. Marbella (Malaga) SPAIN.
